Order Picker Financing

Pick rates drive fulfillment economics, and the order picker is the piece of equipment that determines how many lines per hour a warehouse operation can produce. A correctly speced fleet of electric order pickers, positioned at the right storage height with the right load capacity, determines whether a distribution center hits its SLA or misses it. We finance order pickers, from mid-level single-rider units to high-level cherry pickers operating at heights up to 30 feet, for manufacturers, distributors, and third-party logistics providers across the country. Minimum $50,000, funded in about one to two weeks.

Unlike most production line equipment, order pickers are often financed in fleets of two to ten units at a time, particularly when a warehouse is standing up a new operation or converting from manual cart picking to powered equipment. Fleet transactions work well under our programs because a multi-unit purchase from a single OEM is treated as a single transaction, producing one payment rather than separate facilities for each lift.

Order Picker Types and What Drives the Purchase Decision

Low-level order pickers, sometimes called stockpickers, operate at floor level to aisle-storage heights of 6 to 12 feet and are common in grocery, general merchandise, and light industrial distribution. Mid-level units extend reach to 18 to 20 feet and handle deeper racking systems. High-level order pickers operate at elevations up to 30 feet and are designed for very narrow aisle (VNA) applications in high-cube warehouses where vertical cube utilization is maximized.

Major OEMs in the order picker category include Crown, Raymond, and Toyota Material Handling. Crown's order picker lineup includes the SP series, which is widely deployed in grocery and retail distribution. Raymond's order pickers are common in high-throughput e-commerce and food distribution operations. Toyota's BT brand covers VNA and high-level models. All three are strong collateral assets with active secondary markets and established dealer service networks.

Electric order pickers run on lithium-ion or lead-acid battery systems. The shift from lead-acid to lithium has changed financing dynamics slightly because lithium battery packs, which can represent 20 to 35 percent of the machine's total cost, are often financed as part of the unit rather than separately. Lithium-equipped units qualify for standard equipment financing terms, and the battery's longer cycle life and reduced maintenance overhead improve the total cost of ownership calculation.

Who Finances Order Pickers

The demand profile for order picker financing is centered on three buyer categories. First, established distributors and manufacturers expanding a facility or opening a second distribution site, who need a fleet of pickers to staff the new racking from day one. Second, Warehouse & Distribution Centers operators replacing aging lead-acid units with new lithium-equipped models to reduce maintenance downtime and charging time. Third, Third-Party Logistics (3PL) winning a new fulfillment contract that requires dedicated order picking equipment that goes on the 3PL's books rather than the client's.

The last category is particularly common in the 3PL market. When a logistics provider wins a contract with a major retailer or e-commerce brand, the client often specifies equipment requirements but the 3PL finances the machines. A fleet of six to eight order pickers for a new contract at $25,000 to $40,000 per unit fits our single-transaction approach well, and application-only approval up to approximately $400,000 covers that range without requiring financial statements.

Costs, Terms, and Fleet Financing

New electric order pickers from major OEMs run $18,000 to $45,000 per unit depending on lift height, battery type, and options. A fleet of five mid-level Crown or Raymond units sits comfortably landing between $100k and $175k and qualifies for our application-only track. Larger fleets and high-level VNA units push transaction sizes higher, at which point standard underwriting with bank statements applies.

Terms on new order pickers commonly run 36 to 60 months. Used units, particularly those coming off a two- to three-year lease from a fleet operator, may qualify for 24 to 48 months depending on condition and hours. Order pickers log hours intensively in high-throughput operations, and lenders consider hours-per-year alongside unit age when setting terms on used equipment.

Operating leases are a common structure for order picker fleets because they allow end-of-term fleet refresh without a balloon payment, and they keep the assets off balance sheet for operators who prefer that treatment. We can model both FMV versus dollar buyout lease structures so you see the trade-off between lower monthly payments with an FMV end option versus ownership at lease end via a dollar buyout.

Getting Approved

Order picker transactions under $400,000 process on an application-only basis. That covers most fleet purchases of two to eight units. Larger fleets, high-level VNA configurations, or transactions that include racking and ancillary equipment above that threshold require three months of bank statements.

B and C credit applicants can access programs through direct financing programs, though the terms available differ from prime credit profiles. A down payment of 10 to 20 percent improves approval odds and sometimes unlocks better terms on marginal credit files. Businesses with federal tax liens can still qualify if the lien is subordinated or if there is a payment plan in place. We look at the full picture, not just a credit score. Consider also our No-Money-Down Equipment Financing options if preserving cash is the priority and your credit profile supports it.

Questions About Order Picker Financing

Clear answers on equipment eligibility, documentation, timing, and transaction structure before you send the file.

Can I finance order pickers and the racking system in the same transaction?

Racking is considered a fixture, and many lenders treat it differently than equipment. Some programs will include racking in a transaction if the equipment component is the primary collateral and the racking cost is a minority of the total. Others require a separate facility for racking. Bring us the full project scope and we will tell you which structure applies.

We are replacing lead-acid order pickers with lithium units. Can the battery trade-in value reduce the financing amount?

If you have a dealer willing to credit the old units against the new purchase, the net amount financed is the purchase price minus the trade-in credit. We finance the net amount, which reduces your payment. Make sure the dealer documents the trade-in value on the purchase agreement.

Our warehouse operates two shifts and we need order pickers that can handle opportunity charging. Does lithium battery financing work differently?

Lithium batteries support opportunity charging (partial charges during breaks) without the cycling damage that affects lead-acid units. Lithium-equipped order pickers finance the same way as lead-acid units; the battery is part of the machine cost. The higher upfront cost per unit is offset by lower maintenance and longer battery life, which both improve total cost of ownership.

Can we finance order pickers with a deferred first payment if we are not taking delivery for 60 days?

Some programs offer deferred first payment structures that push the first payment 60 to 90 days from funding, which aligns the payment start with when the equipment is in production. This is common on larger fleet purchases. Mention it when you apply and we will check which programs in our network offer it.
